ELUNED KETTLE 30th June 2011

I only ever met Maurice once but it was a memorable occasion. His son Andy and my daughter Anna, his girlfriend, felt that it would be good for Liz and I to meet him, especially since his health was uncertain. So we all got together for lunch one day at their house. What stays with me is what an utter gentleman he was. Ill he might have been, but he was smartly dressed, complete with jacket and tie, and sitting in his chair ready to receive us. I got him to tell me a bit of his life story - and it tired him out by the end. But bless him, he was determined not to give in. We had a wonderful time together, (largely while our wives chatted!). It was a privilege even to have such a short time with someone who throughout his life had been gentle, courageous, caring. "Well done good and faithful servant!"
